The National Secretariat of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has condoled with Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, over the death of a member of the state House of Assembly, Honourable Musa Mante Baraza.
Baraza was murdered Thursday last week in his residence in Dass, the headquarters of Dass Local Government Area of the state.
Until his death, the lawmaker represented Dass state constituency in the Assembly on the platform of the APC.
APC North-East Vice Chairman, Professor Tahir Mamman, condoled with the governor when he led some officials of the party on a condolence visit to the Government House in Bauchi.
A statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Mohammed on Media, Muktar Gidado, made available to DAILY POST said the delegation led by Professor Mamman was sent by the party to condole with the family, government and people of Bauchi State over the lawmaker’s death.
Mamman described the killing of the late APC lawmaker as a reminder of the security challenges confronting the country despite the progress made in tackling it.
“Your Excellency, we are here from the national secretariat of the APC sent by the Chairman, His Excellency, Governor Mai Mala Buni to condole with the immediate family of the late lawmaker, government and people of Bauchi State over his demise.
“We know Bauchi is a peaceful state and free from criminal activities but unfortunately this has happened,” Prof Mamman stated.
The Speaker, Bauchi State House of Assembly, Rt Honorable Abubakar Y Suleiman, who led the delegation for the condolence visit to the governor, said the APC national officials are in the state to sympathize and condole with stakeholders over the death of the state lawmaker.
Responding, Governor Mohammed, who expressed gratitude to APC national officials for the condolence visit, said the demise of the lawmaker is a sad incident.
The governor extolled the virtues of the late lawmaker and described him as a gentleman who is connected with his constituents.
He said his administration is working in active synergy with security agencies to identify those involved in the killing to make them face the full wrath of the law.
“We are grateful to the APC for this auspicious visit paid to us as a government over the demise of one of our best and a legislator per excellent, Honourable Musa Marte Baraza.
“Late Baraza was a gentleman per excellent. I was saddened with his killing because he is a team player to me despite our differences in political parties,” the governor told the delegation.
Governor Mohammed used the medium to commend members of the Security Special Task Force for working vigorously which resulted in the rescue of the wives and daughter of the slain lawmaker.
“I am happy to report to you that the abducted family members of the late lawmaker have been released now unconditionally.”
Presidential campaign posters of the Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, have flooded social media with the 2023 presidential election only three years away.
