Ex-lawmaker Idimogu tells Obasa: Stop Escalating Tensions, You Were Privileged But Misused It

20 February, 2025

As the crisis rocking the Lagos State House of Assembly continues to generate reactions, a former member of the House, Jude Idimogu, has cautioned the erstwhile Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, to stop heating up the polity in the state.

Idimogu, who represented Oshodi/ Isolo constituency 2, between 2015 and 2023, spoke via a WhatsApp voice note sent to our correspondent, noting that Obasa won’t be first or last Speaker in Nigeria to be removed by their colleagues, and therefore should give peace a chance.

The former lawmaker, while urging Obasa to understand the fact that nothing lasts forever, pointed out that the ex-Speaker had been privileged to serve in the House for over 20 years, and therefore should be grateful to God and the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress, instead of trying to cause unrest and tarnishing the name of the party.

“Obasa should know that he is not greater than the other 39 members of the House of Assembly. The leadership of the APC, led by the President, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, had been nice to him. He should think of where he was coming from and where he is today. If I were him, I will go and do thanksgiving.

“He should embrace his colleagues because he is still a member of that House but not the Speaker and I don’t think he can come back as a Speaker in that place again. He has spent almost 10 years as the Speaker, and 12 years as a member.

“His name is not Lagos State. His name is Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa. It was just a privilege given to him to serve as the Speaker, and at a point, he abused it. He treated his colleagues as slaves, and became an emperor.

“What has happened to Obasa has God’s hands in it. This has nothing to do with party leaders. God has used people to tell him whatever has a beginning must surely have an end. He treated so many people badly, and these people also have God, and they prayed to God and God answered their prayers.

“If he’s not careful, this is just the beginning for him. If I were him, I will go on my knees and beg God for forgiveness. Also, all the former members and the ones that are there currently, he should beg them for forgiveness.

“I would advise him to stop heating up the polity in Lagos State and stop putting the APC in disarray. After all, he has gone to court, then he should allow the court to do its job,” Idimogu stated.

The lawmaker explained that the other 39 members currently in the House are greater than Obasa and that President Tinubu, who is likely to run for a second term, should understand that these other 39 members would gather more loyalists’ votes than Obasa.

“Obasa’s time as the Speaker has come and gone, he should leak his wound and take it in good fate. He has not been suspended as a member of the House and he has a choice to come for the sitting and if he doesn’t, he should know that the people of Agege Constituency 1 will suffer for it,” he added.
