The case has been taken over by the Lagos State Domestic And Sexual Violence Team, DSVRT, which has confirmed that the case file has been sent to the Directorate of Public Prosecution, DPP for legal advice.
The team also said that they are in touch with the Complainant, with a view to providing the necessary support.
In the meantime, it has also been confirmed that four charges are likely to be preferred against Baba Ijesha, including the charge of Indecent Treatment of a Child contrary to Section 135 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, punishable upon conviction with seven years imprisonment.
A statement from the Agency reaffirmed its confidence in the criminal justice system, as well as social support structures in Lagos State, in ensuring that justice is served in this matter, and most importantly, it added, that the survivor will receive the relevant support on her journey towards healing.
The statement reiterated Lagos State Government’s position of zero tolerance to all forms of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, and its firm commitment to ensuring justice for survivors as still sacrosanct and unchangeable.
