Concerned Niger Deltans Rally Behind Mele Kyari, NNPCL

14 August, 2024

A group of concerned citizens from the Niger Delta region has come out in strong support of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and its Group Managing Director, Engr. Mele Kyari.

The group, comprising prominent individuals from the oil-producing communities, has condemned the recent campaign of calumny against Kyari and the NNPCL.

In a statement signed by Comrade Onome Adarighofua, Chief Sugar-Boy Debekekeme, and others, the group praised Kyari's leadership, which has stabilized petroleum prices for over a year. They noted that his efforts have boosted crude oil production, increased national revenue, and improved the 13% derivation payable to oil-producing states.

The group commended President Bola Tinubu for his support of Kyari and urged him to continue standing by the NNPCL boss despite the orchestrated campaign of calumny. They emphasized that Kyari's achievements have endeared him to the people of the Niger Delta, who see him as a patriot and an ace performer in the oil and gas sector.

The statement read in part: "We hasten to remind Nigerians about the state of the oil and gas industry before Mele Kyari came on board and the successes he has recorded... His doggedness in fighting oil theft, boosting oil production, and stabilizing prices of petroleum products has endeared him to our kith and kin across the oil-producing communities of the Niger Delta."

The group urged President Tinubu to discountenance the campaign of calumny and continue to support Kyari's efforts to boost the oil and gas sector. They emphasized that the current trajectory of the industry under Kyari's leadership is positive and aligns with the projections of international analysts.
