Lagos stood still as the city’s finest gathered to honour a man who doesn’t just report the news but he moves with it. Dr. Oluseye Kehinde, the iconic publisher of Nigeria’s most-read celebrity tabloid, City People Magazine marked his 60th birthday in grand style; surrounded by the very people he’s walked, talked, and danced with for decades.

It was a day of joy, praise, and pure celebration as the crème de la crème of Lagos gathered to honor media icon Dr. Seye Kehinde on his 60th birthday. From a soul-lifting Thanksgiving Service at Methodist Church, Opebi, to a classy reception at Airport Hotel, Ikeja, the city turned out in grand style for the man who has chronicled their stories for decades.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu celebrated Seye praised his evolution from a bold reporter to a trailblazing media entrepreneur, calling his journey “an inspiration to the younger generation.”

The President commended Kehinde’s over 30 years of media excellence and urged him to continue championing “people-oriented journalism” as the media world moves deeper into the digital age and wished him good health, long life, and many more fulfilling years ahead.

The moment was made even more special with a birthday lecture delivered by none other than former Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, who paid glowing tribute to the media trailblazer.

Dr. Seye’s radiant wife and loving family were the heartbeat of the celebration attending to every guest with beaming smiles and gracious charm. It was clear: this was not just a birthday; it was a celebration of legacy, love, and leadership.

Representing Governor Sanwo-Olu was Chief of Staff Tayo Ayinde, while former Governor Kayode Fayemi made a surprise appearance to honor his old friend. The guest list was as star-studded as it gets.

Among the many who came to show love are Reverend Mother Esther Ajayi, Style icon and fabric queen Jumoke Oyeneyin, Chief Dele Momodu, Ovation boss, Mama Bakassi, the ever-graceful Sen. Florence Ita Giwa, Pastor Idowu & Dr. Siju Iluyomade, with the power-packed Arise Women; Pastor Doyin Arueyingho, Mrs. Tayo Akinsowon, and Mrs. Yemisi Tinubu, Chief Gbenga Obasa, media man Yemi Shodimu, Prince Bisi Olatilo, and Senator Gbenga Ashafa. The music legend Chief Ebenezer Obey hit the bandstand, serenading Seye and his guests with classic miliki vibes that had the whole room swaying.

For Seye, journalism has never been an act; it’s life lived in real time. Every story he tells carries a pulse, every policy he touches beats with authenticity, he remains the rare breed who leads not with pretense, but with presence.

As Chairman, Publisher, and Editor-in-Chief of City People, Dr. Kehinde has spent decades shaping the media landscape, telling the stories that matter, and spotlighting the stars long before the cameras did. A trailblazer in Nigerian journalism, he’s built more than a brand; he’s built a legacy.

But beyond the headlines and front pages, Seye Kehinde is a force of nature whose wisdom, humility, and quiet strength have mentored and molded a generation of media professionals. Many who’ve passed through his newsroom describe him not just as a boss, but as a big brother, role model, and mentor, one whose words stay with you long after the ink has dried.

As he marks this diamond jubilee, the tributes pour in, each one echoing the same truth: Dr. Seye Kehinde is not just a man of the press; but a storyteller who participates and a publisher who has remained grounded in the very streets he reports from.
