Adoji has secured a significant victory over his political opponent, Jibrin Isah of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the Tribunal invalidated Isah's win in a recent ruling.
The National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, sitting in Lokoja, Kogi State, made the decision to sack Jibrin Isah as the lawmaker representing Kogi East, ordering the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a supplementary election between Adoji and Isah.
The Tribunal's ruling mandates a rerun in 94 polling units, with over 59,730 votes at stake. Adoji's petition challenged Isah's victory, citing the cancellation of elections in certain polling units where the number of collected Permanent Voter's Cards (PVCs) exceeded the margin of Isah's win.
The Tribunal, led by Justice K.A. Orjiako, endorsed Adoji's plea and annulled Isah's victory while nullifying his certificate of return. The Tribunal's unanimous decision also mandated INEC to conduct a supplementary election in the affected polling units to determine the ultimate winner.
The decision of the Tribunal is set to have a significant impact on the political landscape of Kogi East and may potentially alter the composition of the National Assembly.
