Onanuga’s aspiration was contained in a letter of intent sent to the Olori Ebi and members of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House.
The letter of intent, dated Saturday, 18 October, 2025, was officially submitted to his royal family, the Fusengbuwa Ruling House on Saturday, 18 October, 2025.
It reads:
The Olori Ebi and Esteemed members of Fusengbuwa Ruling House.
LETTER OF INTENT FOR THE VACANT STOOL OF THE AWUJALE OF IJEBULAND
In view of the preparations being made by various traditional institutions to fill the vacant stool of the Awujale of Ijebuland, and in line with the steps taken by the Government of Ogun State in the same direction, I, Otunba (Giwa) Abiodun Onanuga, with utmost respect and humility, and in consultation with my family, hereby offer myself as a candidate for consideration as the next Awujale of Ijebuland.
I took this decision upon deep introspection on the profound reverence, high sense of responsibility and the huge burden which the stool demands.
I am, by the grace of God, a proud son of Ijebuland, born into the very heart of its royal heritage.
My royal lineage is multifaceted and deeply rooted in our history. On my paternal side, I am a grandson of Alhaji Prince Mustafa Onanuga of the Anikilaya Ruling House.
I also hail from the Jadiara (Fusengbuwa lineage) Royal family through my late father, Alhaji Omo-Oba Ishola Onanuga whose maternal grandfather was Omo-Oba Fetuga of Ikanigbo, Ijebu Ode
My maternal grandfather , Alfa Kadiri was a direct descendant of Bubiade royal family of Itamare, Ita ajana, and the Obelu Lukan Royal Family of Esure.
Furthermore, I am a great-grandson of Prince Talabi Awoye, son of the 40th Ajalorun of Ijebu Ife, of the Olufesogbade Ruling House.
Should I be chosen to ascend the throne, I pledge to honour the legacy of our forefathers, uphold the values of our culture, and dedicate my life to the continued prosperity, peace, and unity of all Ijebu people. I will serve as a father to all, a custodian of our traditions, and a catalyst for progress in the modern era.“
