Since he left office and virtually the political terrain, he has remained very indelible and relevant in many spheres, garnering awards and recognitions right, left and center. Recently, in Abuja the Federal Capital Territory, Mimiko was enamored with another merited and well-deserved honour by the Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria (AGPMPN) for his contributions to the health sector in Ondo State. The AGPMPN recognized Iroko for his modest and impactful records in the health sector. He formally dedicated the honour to the incredible team that worked with him in Ondo state and shared his vision of healthcare for all, to achieve the inimitable outstanding results they are all proud of till date, just as pledged to continue to advocate universal health coverage for every Nigerian, because healthcare must remain a fundamental human right. What was very apparent and evident at the event was the avalanche of accolades that was poured on him by the event’s organizers and even his erstwhile political associates and supporters who all trooped to the event to identify with their grandmaster who is still standing stall and mighty, without any sign of relenting or back-sliding in the scheme of things, politically, socially, economically and above all professional medical doctor of many years standing. The highlight of the day was when Alhaja Adeola Agoro showered him with petals as he received his award plaque from Senator Idoma, as the hall erupted in applause. For the record, the Iroko, before becoming governor, has served in many capacities as a Minister of Health, a Commissioner, and an SSG, just to mention a few. The sky is definitely his starting point, as more honours are still on the way.
