According to reports, former Super Eagles manager Sunday Oliseh is the leading candidate to manage Nigeria's senior men's football team.
According to OwnGoalNigeria, Oliseh, who coached the Super Eagles between 2015 and 2016, is the favorite of Nigeria's Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, to fill the vacant position.
Following the Super Eagles' failure to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) fired their coaching staff, led by Austin Eguavoen, last week.
Nigeria drew 1-1 with Ghana's Black Stars in the decisive match in Abuja, after drawing 0-0 in the first leg in Kumasi.
With a void at the helm of the team and the Super Eagles set to reassemble in June ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, Oliseh could return as Nigeria's coach.
The report also suggests that the NFF will meet with the minister to discuss the Super Eagles' failure to qualify for the World Cup, with the main agenda being who will replace Eguavoen.
In April 2020, Oliseh was quoted as saying "I will never coach the Super Eagles again."
In June 2021, Oliseh stated that he was willing to take over as coach of the Super Eagles if the NFF wanted him to.
