The community group organized the trainings in cake baking; soap making, decoration and Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) installation training with the aim of making the youths acquire knowledge and be useful to themselves and the society.
The convener, Chairman, Akute West Area CDC, Elder Toyin Abraham Kaadiri stated that the skill acquisition and most recently that of the CCTV which began on Wednesday was in consonance of the need to prepare the youths for required skills in today’s world of innovative job market.
“I and my executives of the Akute West Area CDC are elated for the successful kicking off of the CCTV installation training which is 2-day training for youths residing in our area. This is the second series of skills acquisition program that the CDC has undergone in three weeks. We thank God for making this day a reality. The participants that came to the venue shot beyond our target and this is because closed circuit television is relevant in our world today for surveillance, security and business management purpose. We shall continue to do more to re-position our youths and children,” says Kadiri.
The CCTV Installation training was undertaken by Dahua Technology in partnership with PNS International Limited. Engineer Toyosi who began the training on Wednesday, urged participants to mazimize the benefits of the knowledge of CCTV training as he was able to get his own training early in his undergraduate days, which came as a result of overcoming boredom, and this has taken him to different places and given him a source of livelihood aside the course of study he enrolled for in the university.
Alhaji Sanni Mubarak, a known community leader in Akute under Ifo Local Government in Ogun State, stated that this skill acquisition program was historical because it would afford participants to enhance their knowledge in safety measures, surveillance and business inventory approach as many were learning the skill for the first time. “This skill acquisition which is historic in this community, will help the youths to create jobs outside their field of study and also cause secondary school leavers who came to choose a relevant field in their future careers,” says Mubarak. He commended the Akute West Area CDC for initiating such program and urged other community groups to emulate the CDC.
Alhaji Abd Akeem Otubu, patron of the CDC, said the program would trigger the youths in the community to seek more knowledge on closed circuit television installation and can help in reducing unemployment in the society.
One of the participants, Kayode Olanrewaju, 16 years, who had finished his secondary school and performed well in his West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Education (WASSCE) results, said that the knowledge obtained in the two-day skill acquisition program, would help him make an informed decision on his course of study in the university. “I am very grateful and thank God for attending this program as it has helped me to decide the course I will do in the university. As a science student, I had contemplated doing Micro-Biology at the Lagos State University (LASU) but the teachings of Eng Toyosi has opened my eyes on the relevance of physics in the science of CCTV installation. We need more programs like this to help the youths to make good choices in life and career,” says Olanrewaju.
