Bamidele said Fayemi must have contracted the lethal disease as a frontline combat while offering effective leadership and protection for the people of Ekiti State in the frontal fight against the spread of the Coronavirus.
Fayemi and the State’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Wale Fapohunda as well as hordes of other cabinet members were recently reported to have contracted the virus through their respective twitter handles.
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, who clocks 57 on Wednesday, July 2, 2020, wished the Governor and other victims quick recovery, to be able to return to their duty posts to serve humanity, emphasizing that there couldn’t be a more responsible way to commemorate his 57th birthday anniversary than what he had chosen to do, which is to remain indoor and solemnly spend the day in prayer and fasting to celebrate God for his life and pray, most fervently, for the divine touch and quick recuperation for his brother, Governor Fayemi and all Government officials and private citizens who are currently fighting COVID-19 infection.
Speaking with journalists when contacted via telephone conversation yesterday, Bamidele stated that the upsurge in the number of COVID-19 patients in Ekiti lent credence to the reality of the existence of the deadly scourge.
“We need to all pray for Governor Kayode Fayemi and other cabinet members who had contracted this disease in the course of discharging their services to the people of our dear state.
“We could all attest to the virulent actions Governor Fayemi had taken to tame COVID-19 spread in Ekiti. He was one of the first five states’ Chief executives to impose lockdown and banned interstate movement in Ekiti, just in a bid to keep the people safe.
“Added to that was the COVID-19 fund mobilization committee comprising eminent Ekiti statesmen like: Chief Afe Babalola (SAN), Chief Wole Olanipekun(SAN), the late Sir Remi Omotoso and others that he composed, which mobilised about N700 million that had been dispensed to provide succour for victims, established a molecular laboratory to boost testing capacity and provide palliatives for the vulnerable during the lockdown.
“But for the decisive actions taken by Governor Fayemi and the COVID-19 task force, the number of victims in Ekiti would have increased geometrically and that is why we should all pray for the Governor’s quick recovery for him to return to his duty post”.
The All Progressives Congress chieftain added that the fact that Governor Fayemi and other leaders in his cabinet could even fall victims signposted that COVID-19 is real and in existence, contrary to erroneous impression that it was a mere illusion.
Bamidele appealed to the people to abide by all safety protocols and guidelines stipulated by government in the market centres and other public places to save Ekiti from experiencing explosive increase of Coronavirus victims.
“In a matter of days, churches, mosques, schools and other locked-down public places will be reopened for economic activities. Our people must be circumspect of their actions. They must follow all guidelines that will avert the number of victims and checkmate untimely deaths of our citizens in Ekiti.
“There is no gainsaying the fact that Coronavirus is real and also deadly, and we must all be cautious in the way we live our lives,” Bamidele advised.
