Ex-convict to spend 10 years in jail for stealing foodstuff in Ogun

One Mr. Ayinde Semiu has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for stealing foodstuff in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

The 27-year-old Semiu was sentenced by an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court sitting in Isabo on Wednesday.

Semiu was said to have broken into two shops, stealing foodstuff worth N77,850.

The Magistrate, Mrs I.O Abudu, sentenced the convict to jail as after pleaded guilty to the six-count charge bordering on burglary and stealing.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Inspector Abolade Bukola, had told the court that the convict committed the offences on Monday, about 2.30 am at Elega area of Abeokuta.

Bukola told the court that Semiu had burgled two shops, made away with foodstuffs and money, belonging to one Mrs Koleosho Mariam and Mrs Aremu Omolara.

According to the prosecutor, the defendant was caught in the act by one resident of the area, who saw him stealing the food items.

She informed the court that the defendant had on two different occasions been convicted for stealing.

The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravened Sections 414 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun, 2006.
