05 January, 2025

In a swift rebuttal to recent claims making the rounds, BUA Group has set the record straight regarding its landmark BUA Refinery & Petrochemicals project in Akwa Ibom State. Contrary to reports suggesting the 200,000 barrels-per-day refinery is 90% complete, the company has categorically dismissed such assertions, clarifying that they did not originate from its official channels.

In a statement issued by the management, BUA reassured stakeholders that the construction of the refinery is progressing steadily in line with its delivery timelines. While the project has not reached the speculated milestone, the company emphasized that it remains committed to meeting its schedule in collaboration with its partners.

This multi-billion-dollar project represents a pivotal step towards bolstering Nigeria’s refining capacity and ensuring energy security. In addition to the refinery, BUA highlighted the rapid progress of other energy initiatives, including the construction of a mini-LNG plant and several hybrid power plants nationwide, which will add to its impressive installed captive power generation capacity of over 1,000 MW.

The company urged the public to rely solely on updates from its official platforms to avoid being misled by unverified information. “At BUA, we remain committed to transparency and excellence,” the statement read, underscoring the group’s track record of delivering over 12 mega industrial projects valued at $3.5 billion in the last decade.

As Nigerians eagerly anticipate the completion of this transformative refinery, BUA reaffirmed its dedication to providing accurate updates as significant milestones are achieved. The company thanked the public for its continued interest and enthusiasm, vowing to play a central role in building a self-reliant industrial base for the nation.

BUA continues to set new benchmarks with its groundbreaking achievements in Nigeria’s industrial, energy, and manufacturing sectors, including the delivery of state-of-the-art cement plants, sugar refineries, and fertilizer production facilities.
