The Kwara State Fire Service disclosed this on Wednesday through the Head of Media and Publicity of the state’s Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle.
He said that that it rescued about 13 out of the 15 coaches on the train but two were seriously damaged by the fire.
The train which was coming from Lagos was reportedly set ablaze by some hoodlums when it had a stop-over for repairs at the Offa Railway station.
Adekunle in a statement narrated, “The incident occurred about 5.17pm at Offa Railway Station in Offa, Kwara State. Out of the 15 coaches contained by the affected train, two were burnt due to the rigorous efforts made by fire fighters.”
Hassan, said the DPO of Offa railway station, Ekemonde Oluwafemi, called the attention of the fire brigade to the incident.
Director, state fire service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, urged members of the public not to hesitate to call the brigade whenever there is an emergency in their areas.
He said it will go a long way to save the lives and properties of the people in the state.
