ASUU embarks on one month warning nationwide strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has voted to embark on a warning strike to press home its demands from the government. The strike was declared at a press conference addressed by the President of ASUU, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, on Monday, 14 February. He said the strike, which takes effect from Monday, February 14, 2022, would last for an initial period of four weeks, Punch reports. According to him, the union tried to avoid the strike but the Federal Government is unresponsive to the union’s demands. “We don’t like to see our students at home. Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, alias Sunday Igboho has filed a $1,000,000 (N570 million) suit as general damages against the Republic of Benin, before the Community Court of Justice, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in Abuja. Igboho, through his lawyer, Tosin Ojaomo, also asked for a declaration of the court that Benin Republic’s actions regarding his unlawful, arbitrary arrest and detention, violate his freedom of movement, his right to an unbiased trial within a reasonable time, and his right to dignity as a person. Police confirm arrest of Abba Kyari, four others over links with drug cartels

The Nigerian Police Force has confirmed the arrest of a suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Abba Kyari, and four other police officers over their links with international drug cartels. Others arrested alongside Kyari include ACP Sunday Ubuah, ASP Bawa James, Inspector Simon Agrigba, and Inspector John Nuhu, while the fifth suspect, ASP John Umoru, is still at large. They were arrested on Monday for their involvement in an alleged case of criminal conspiracy, discreditable, unethical and unprofessional conduct, official corruption, and tampering with exhibits in a case of illicit drug trafficking involving a perpetual transnational drug cartel, the police said.
