Cristiano Ronaldo breaks all-time FIFA Goals record

14 March, 2022

Cristiano Ronaldo's hat-trick against Tottenham moved him past Josef Bican as FIFA's all-time leading goalscorer in competitive matches.

In 2020, FIFA recognized Prague-born Bican's total of 805 goals as the most in world football, and Ronaldo's unstoppable long-range strike brought him level.

It was Ronaldo's 59th hat trick of his career and his first for United since his return in 2008.

Ronaldo had become only the third player aged 37 or over to score more than once in a Premier League game the other two were Graham Alexander and Teddy Sheringham.

This term, Ronaldo has now scored 18 goals in all competitions, and the last time the striker didn’t get into double figures for goals was the 2004/05 season, when he accumulated nine.

On 81 minutes, he scored the game-winning header as United scored from a corner kick for the second time this season.

Lionel Messi, 34, is the highest active player on the list after Ronaldo, with 759 goals.

Ronaldo, 37, holds the all-time record for most Champions League goals (140) as well as the most international goals in men's world football (115). The five-time Ballon d'Or winner began his professional career with Sporting CP in Portugal before joining Manchester United in 2003.

After six seasons with United, he moved to Spanish La Liga giant Real Madrid, where he scored 450 goals in 438 games over the course of his nine-year career. After two seasons with Juventus in Italy, he rejoined the Red Devils in August.
